Current Category: Piercing Wash
Piercing Wash™ was specially formulated in conjunction with one of Australia's leading aromatherapists for the purpose of healing piercings. We have had fantastic success with this product and would like to share that success with you. Piercing Wash is a trade marked product and is only available through The Piercing Shop so beware of imitations. This product is a blend of lavender and tea tree essential oils in a coconut/glycerin base. To use it all you need to do is wet the piercing well, apply 1-2 drops of Piercing Wash to your fingers, lather it up and apply the resulting foam to the piercing. Allow this to sit for 1-2 minutes and then wash off well. Lavender was originally used by the Egyptians and Romans as a perfume and body oil. However, due to the poor availability of lavender (lavender generally only grows well at altitude) only the rich were able to benefit. Throughout the past two millennia lavender has been generally favoured as an insect repellant, anti-oxidant (anti-aging/rejuvenating tea as it was then regarded) and as a popular sedative, especially in the latter half of the 19th century. The anti-inflammatory and healing properties of lavender oil were first described by the French chemist Gattefosse in 1923 after he bathed his arms, burnt by an explosion, in lavender oil. His skin recovered fully from the burns and healed with minimal scarring. This eventually lead to its use as a readily available antiseptic during WW2. First presented to The Royal Society in 1923 as an antiseptic by Penfold of the Sydney Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences, tea tree extract and oil has nonetheless been used for thousands of years by the aboriginal communities of Australia. It has a variety of anti-fungal, antibiotic and antiviral properties and is ideal for application to minor wounds. However, pure tea tree oil is rather astringent so it does need to be diluted.
